From Routine to Purposeful Teaching
With the day to day teaching activities, you may see yourself used to a daily routine. Then you get comfortable with teaching, making content, assessing and completing the delivery of the syllabus.
But routine is boring. It kills the momentum. It buffers the excitement and thrill of doing something different.
This is why every semester, I request different courses to teach and different levels.
If we ask ourselves: How to shift from routine to purpose when teaching, I like to dig to our personal why. Why teach? Why come to the university everyday? Is it really just the monthly salary? Is it just to survive the daily living? Or maybe we could incorporate purpose into our why?
Could we say: Create a long lasting impact? Make a foundational shift in their thinking and feeling? Influence them in a way that can make them change their mind about their potential and growth? Or probably show up in the most human, authentic and honest way possible?
Then maybe we can have a chance of moving from routine to purpose in teaching.
