Personalizing?

There are many life situations where we personalize and take it personally and seriously.

Examples are: Why they didn’t tell me about this happy news? They forgot me and isolated me! How come they don’t involve me in this meeting!

When doing this habit, it pushes you to believe its about you. It makes everything about you and only you.

Then I internally reflect: Is it really about me? What is really happening here? What is happening in people lives? If I step in the shoes of the other person, what will I see?

Using empathy this way relieves you from the unnecessary tensions and burdens of personalizing. It clarifies the big picture instead of only thinking about you. It takes us into a place of self-awareness and others’ acceptance too.

Now you find yourself saying: It’s ok. They didn’t tell me because of the many things happening in their lives. The situation is already hard and they come from a vulnerable place. And who knows what they have been going through and what they were facing. The only thing I can do is send positive vibes and wish them well with pure intentions.

At the end, this reflective practice never stops. It is ongoing and continuous. That’s why we are humans and need to reflect and process.
