Worried to Disappoint your Kids?

I personally struggle with this a lot. I often catch myself worrying: My kids will be bored. I have to entertain them. Oh they have a holiday. What can I do to keep them busy.

Many of the options my mind generates at the beginning are options that require money to spend. But at the moment with us shifted to a new home, spending more money on kids’ entertainment is not always an option. We gotta look for other free options.

Then I overthink: Oh my kids will be disappointed. They will compare with their cousins and friends. They will feel isolated. And on and on.

Looking at this from a broad perspective, I think: What would help my kids in the long run? Me worrying to disappoint them now or them to practice resilience skills and adopt to the situation with thinking out of the box?

If we avoid our kids from being disappointed in situations, we are not preparing them for life. It feels like you create a child’s personality like an egg shell. If anything happens to your child in the future, they would be severely affected mentally and emotionally because you never provided for them the space to feel disappointed, adopt to a new situation and develop resilience skills.

So if you are worried to disappoint your kids, chill and relax. It is ok. This is a chance for your kids to gain a perspective, learn a long-term life skill and become independent resilient people in the future insha Allah.
