Moving on with Faith and Hope

Today is my 3 years old son’s first day in school. He started attending classes for his KG1 level. It is thrilling and exciting to see him start this new chapter in his childhood life.

We arrived at his school at 7.30 am. He was accompanied by his nanny also to help him with his toilet trips and activities inside and outside the classroom.

I am so happy and grateful that we found a school who is ready to provide adjustments and flexibilities for my son according to his current physical health. It was tricky and confusing at first. At the beginning, several schools I visited couldn’t accept the fact that he is physically weak and can’t cope with the level of his classmates. It was like either he is physically fit and ready to start school or just focus on his medical treatments and wait till he gets better. But with consistent searching and asking, we finally found this school where the head principle and the teachers had open two-way conversation with me about my son’s condition and how we can support him during this time.

I can’t forget this statement when the head principle said: Even if he gets 10% or 20% of the beneficial learning experience in this school, that will be a great milestone for us. Each child learns at his/her own personal space and level. Each child is unique and different. And every child regardless of their health issues they face, deserve to join the education system with full support and adjustments from everyone involved.

Lastly, if you are a parent to a child with health issues, please don’t get discouraged by judgments and comments you may hear. Your child deserves the full support and adjustments. Always create your terms and rules. Be open to two-way communication and ideas. And make sure to involve everyone in the journey of caring and supporting your child.
