Rain Experience in Oman 2026

This year on 25th March, we celebrated Eid Al fitir with rain, thunder, lightning and wind.

Because of the danger of floods, we were asked to stay home, work / study from home till the weather settles.

With the fear of the damages and risks caused by the rain, we were also excited, happy and looking forward for it. I guess because it is very rare to rain in our country.

The last day it rained which was 27th March was special. It started early morning when everyone was asleep.

I woke up around 5.30 am with the rain sound. After I prayed fajir, did thikir, I made for myself a warm breakfast of fried eggs, slices of oranges and cucumbers, lettuce and slices of turkey chicken. Of course not to forget my hot caramel latte.

I sat beside the window eating and watching the rain. I opened the window so I can feel the rain drops and cool breeze touching my face. The trees in our backyard were dancing and moving with the rain. The sound of the rain shower calmed me a lot. I just stayed there, listening, observing, reflecting and enjoying my time.

I was telling myself: The world is beautiful. The rain drops washing the trees, bushes, flowers, ground and all the surfaces. We may feel at times tensed, sad, depressed and out of mood. But this scene really indicates how privileged we are, special, unique and blessed to be here to experience this.

I didn’t get bored or tired watching and feeling the rain. Then I smelled the fresh aroma of the rain fragrance mixed with sand and trees.

I immediately went downstairs to our backyard. It was still raining. I walked without slippers so I can feel the cold wet ground with my bare feet. I walked, enjoyed the wet trees and plants and took long fresh breaths. I kept walking around the backyard until I got myself fully wet. It was amazing. I don’t know when it will rain again but I told myself: I will not miss this chance of enjoying the rain to the fullest.

Then later in the evening around 4.30 pm we went to visit Al Khoudh Dam through Al Khoudh As’ Sadsa route. Many families were there like siblings, children and couples.

We found a good spot just next to the wadi. We arranged our chairs there and had snacks while enjoying the view.

The breeze over there in between the valleys was different. It was cool, free and relaxing. My mother-in-law walked in the wadi with her grand kids feeling like massage because of the small stones.

Some areas were deep and other areas of the wadi were shallow. We stayed beside the shallow water for the kids.

My son couldn’t help it but go in the water with half of his body. My daughters were also standing in the water and throwing stones far into the big wadi.

It was sun set already. The sky was light orange and blue. Still it was cloudy. The view of the valley, hills and the moving wadi was gorgeous. I saw a group of old siblings organised a sitting set-up in the middle of the wadi, having tea, chatting and taking pictures. Other kids and women were walking, exploring the place and having a good time.

I pray for Oman and its people to be in peace and blessings and experience such climates with love and wonder.
