Rayyan’s 5th Birthday

Yesterday 6th Feb 2026 was my son’s 5th birthday.

Every year when it is his birthday, we see it as big milestone.

Looking back when he was one year old, who expected his growth? The doctors refused to treat him because of his young age. I remember in those days, me and his father watching him sleep at night and asking ourselves: What can we do to help him? From where can we find a doctor to treat him?

I don’t know if anyone can understand this. It felt like you are in a dark room blindfolded and full of uncertainty.

Indeed those times we had no one to go to and ask except Allah.

Looking at him now with his increasing height and slow gaining weight, we thank Allah for every progress he is making.

He goes to school daily. He is KG2. He used to lay down on the mattress in class. Now he can sit with his friends the full time duration in school.

Before whenever we go out with him in a mall or playground, he would always request to be carried or stay in the stroller. Now he walks all the way with us and refuses to be carried.

Still we are in this scoliosis journey. We expect multiple spine surgeries (every two years) to correct his spine growth. Uncertainty is still there because it depends on his spine’s response with the treatment he is receiving.

All we can do is be there for him, support him and give him all the strength and support he needs.

Our prayers for all Muslim patients who face such moments and may Allah give them healing and strength. Ameen.
