What is Unhealthy Peace?
This is a new term I learned yesterday. Unhealthy peace. By Priya Parker, the author of her book: the art of gathering.
We think we should maintain peace in the environment. We have to make sure everyone and everything is ok. No one should be in trouble. We gotta fix the situation and make everything perfectly suit our rosy expectations.
But actually this is an illusion. We can’t fix others or situations. Other people problems is none of our business. Everyone minds his/her business.
This could sound like selfish. But it is the truth. A harsh truth especially for peace makers like myself.
So to reflect your thoughts, perceptions and ideas about peace, ask yourself the following questions and write your answers on paper:
Why are you fixing the situation? What is it you are actually fixing?
What is peace to you? What are your old beliefs behind the word peace?
Describe your childhood environment and how it shaped your perceptions today about peace?
When peace is healthy and when it could be unhealthy?
Can you be priority selective when making peace in your environment?
List down some of your today behaviors that indicate you making peace?
