Open to Change
We can’t deny. Change is hard. We attach to our careers, jobs, routines and habits.
When it comes to change, we think: It is risky. It is dangerous. We are going to fall and get hurt. We are going to lose all that we have struggled all our life to build.
But then looking at it from a broad perspective, change is important for our evolution and growth. It breaks the status quo and creates momentum. It builds up gradually our dopamine (the excitement, thrill and the good feeling).
Just compare the following examples and reflect for yourself:
Example 1:
A person sticks to one career all his life. He complains of the lack of fulfilment and meaning in his career. But he sticks to it because of the illusion of job security and safety. At the end of his career when retirement, he perceives lack of purpose and doesn’t know what else he can do with his free time.
Example 2:
A person works at different institutions to get an exposure and experience. He looks at his career as something to learn from instead of something to survive. He switches career periodically to gain general knowledge in the field. This person sees no end to his career because he keeps exploring, testing, trying different things and contributing.
