Work-Life Balance

This is a topic I really like talking about. How to balance work and life together when you are leading a career or business or both.

What I noticed in the beginning of my career is the society value a lot the hard workers and top performers. 90% of the conversations is about work, promotion, money, income and performance.

But then at the end of a working day, I sense this empty unfulfilled feeling inside me. It is like something is missing. What am I chasing? What am I running towards? What is this illusion I am trying to prove? Is it that I am not enough working citizen? Is it to prove my worthiness of earning every bit of the monthly salary? Or is it to meet others’ expectations and fit in the society?

The answers to these questions I started realizing in the end of my 30s. It is not easy to keep working and missing the opportunity to live a well lived life.

I know many who realize this harsh truth after being sick or facing a traumatic experience. But wait a minute. You don’t need to wait all that time to realize such truths. You can make a choice today to let go of the cultural stereotypes and create your own terms and values of what matters to you and what doesn’t.

At the end, work-life balance is understanding the big picture of your life. Work is only one part of it. You have got other parts also. And remember we are humans and not machines. We need rest. We need to take a moment for ourselves. And we get tired and need to fill our cups from time to time.
