Work, Work and Work
There is this frustration I often have. Why talk about work only? Is work the only thing we can talk about? Don’t we have other aspects of life we can talk about like our hobbies, spirituality, mindset shifts, feelings, new ideas or plans for the future?
Talking about work most of the time is like you are going in continuous cycles that don’t stop. It feels like nothing is important except your work. It just says: Work is on top of everything. Everything else don’t matter.
Well here I like to refer to this question: What else to this mindset? If I retire from work, then I would be nothing? If work is the only thing there is, what would happen to me after I retire? Is working really my only identity?
Doing this reflective process tells me a hard and harsh truth: No body actually cares. You come to work and go. But it doesn’t change the fact that you will have to leave it one day and find something else to do and be busy with.
They tell us about organization loyalty and worker commitment. But end of the day, you are the person you will continue to live with and not your work. You may love your work wholeheartedly but the value of you, the core of you and your true essence never change and never will.
So stop attaching your personal identity to work only. Don’t believe the majority. If a conversation doesn’t appeal to you, leave it and find another one that resonates with you personally.
